Fabric Warehouse Git sync fails after an ordinary schema edit
A warehouse database project can conflict with live schema state. Validate the project, dependencies and deployment plan before another workspace sync.
October 24, 2026
A warehouse team expects a branch merge to update the Fabric workspace. Instead, a changed column, missing view or shared query blocks the sync. A recent practitioner discussion shows the pain; a Microsoft contributor asks for exact reproduction, so the reported cases should not be treated as one confirmed product bug.
Treat the warehouse as a database project
Microsoft says Git stores the warehouse schema as a database project and applies differences with DacFx. Build that project locally before updating a shared workspace. Review changes to tables, views and procedures together, including object dependencies; a Git diff is not proof that a schema deployment can succeed.
Check the documented blockers
Microsoft’s troubleshooting guide lists self-references using three-part names, outdated SQL project SDKs and cross-warehouse reference errors among known causes. The integration also has preview limitations around cross-item dependencies and selective commits. Use the exact error and generated deployment plan to distinguish these from an unrelated state conflict.
Make recovery reviewable
Before another sync, preserve the Git commit, workspace state and failing object list. Test a minimal branch in a disposable workspace if available. Apply an approved schema migration for data-bearing objects rather than deleting and recreating a production warehouse merely to clear a conflict. Record which objects changed after the update.
Adovo’s view
Source control is only trustworthy when the running warehouse can be reconstructed from it without improvisation. The release gate is a validated schema plan and a repeatable workspace sync, not a successful commit.
