AJO migration automation still needs a review contract

Guided Journey Optimizer onboarding can move assets faster, but teams still need to prove data, consent, channel and journey behavior before cutover.

October 26, 2026

Moving from an existing campaign platform to Adobe Journey Optimizer is more than importing templates. Adobe's October announcement describes guided onboarding for email content and journey review, currently in limited availability. That may reduce mechanical conversion work, but a visually correct migrated asset can still have the wrong data mapping, consent rule or channel behavior.

Start with a disposition inventory

Classify each journey and template as migrate, redesign or retire. Record the business owner, trigger, audience, suppression logic, content dependencies, metrics and current production volume. Use representative complex examples in the pilot, not only the easiest email. A migration that preserves every legacy branch may also preserve the reasons the current program is hard to operate.

Review the conversion where it can change meaning

The announcement says the guided flow can convert templates and personalization syntax and flag action items for journeys, channels and audiences. Review token mappings against real profiles with missing and conflicting values. Check fragments, localization, fallback copy and approved consent paths. On the canvas, compare entry rules, waits, exits and reentry. Record every manual decision and its owner so reviewers are approving behavior rather than an attractive preview.

Cut over with evidence

Run a small parallel test or controlled cohort where permitted. Compare eligibility, send decisions, suppression and downstream measurement for known test profiles. Define rollback and a sign-off threshold before switching the trigger. Ask Adobe about your organization's access and feature coverage; the announcement explicitly marks onboarding as limited availability and future capabilities as directional.

Adovo’s view

Automation can move the artifact; only a team can certify the promise it makes to a customer. Migration speed has value when the review boundary is explicit. Otherwise a faster copy simply moves uncertainty into production.
